Treatment:
You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage...
Sports massage is designed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers, but it is also highly beneficial for work and lifestyle-related aches and pains.
Sports massage helps to prevent injuries to the muscles, tendons and ligaments by working to reduce restrictions within the soft tissue that may impair the movement of both muscles and joints. These soft tissue restrictions, if untreated, can cause postural imbalance and pain. Sports massage promotes greater flexibility, reduces fatigue, helps prevent injuries by reducing muscle tightness and alleviating those annoying aches, pains and 'knots'. It is also great at targeting increased circulation to flush out waste products from the muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia that occur through everyday function, muscle overuse (tightness) and injury.
What Happens During a Sports Massage?
As a Sports massage therapist I will use a variety of techniques to achieve the desired goal. I may use general massage techniques of effleurage and pettrissage to stimulate circulation of blood and lymph fluids, deeper techniques to break down adhesions in the muscles, and stretching techniques to increase range of motion.
During your initial consultation, you will be asked to complete a registration form which is required by law. If you have a specific injury, a postural assessment will be done to look at imbalances and range of movement. A treatment will then commence based on these findings. Post treatment an exercise programme will be sent to you in order further rehabilitate and/or correct the postural problem.

Advanced Techniques:
Remedial / Corrective Massage
Remedial massage is a deep, soft tissue treatment used to address a specific problem. A range of hands-on techniques will be used with the aim to facilitate a change to the soft tissue layers, from superficial to deep with the primary goal to reduce pain and return the body's normal movement range.
The focus is on working the layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia to restore functional movement and encourage postural change. Soft tissue work will help to restore correct muscle tone, symmetry and balance, with the goal of realigning the soft tissue influence on joint position. Massage treatments differ according the presenting symptoms and client's needs. Treatments combine clinical assessment with general massage and advanced soft tissue techniques such as:
• Muscle Energy Technique
• Soft Tissue Release
• Fascial Release Technique
• Neuro-Muscular Technique
• Positional Release Technique
